About Us

I have been working with children, first as a new mum and then at toddler and play groups as well as childminding since 1981. My own children, Mark and Emma (now adults) and Alec and Aran (almost teenagers), have taught me that children need love and the security of firm but kind discipline, together with stimulation and education. I firmly believe a homely, family atmosphere, a mixed age group together with wide and varied learning opportunities provides the most natural and nurturing environment for young children, rather than the clinical institutional environment of many of our big nurseries today.

I completed the City and Guilds Caring for Children 0~7 Years course in 1991 and passed the NNEB Diploma with Distinction in 1993. I also hold the NAMCW Nursery Management Certificate as well as an OND in Business Studies. I have qualified as an Advanced Forest School Leader and more recently I have completed a degree in Early Childhood Studies Class 1 and have gained Early Years Professional Status. I have also spent a week in Denmark exploring their early years education and Forest Schools ethos.

Following my years studying at Worcester University with noted authors Mike Reed and Sue Callan I was fortunate to be chosen to contribute to their latest book, Work Based Research in the Early Years which has now been published.

I continue my studies and am presently doing a Leadership and Management Course as well as volunteering one morning a week at a local first school in the reception class so that I can improve planning and delivery to our nursery children as well as ensure the perfect transition when the time comes for them to move on. When I am not studying or volunteering you will find me in the nursery working with the children and developing the staff.

My staff are hand picked by myself and all qualified to at least level 3. I am confident we have a well balanced team which includes the enthusiasm of just a couple of youngsters, but mainly the experience of mature confident, well trained practitioners. Staff turnover is extremely low, we run a very happy ship! Each team member chooses an area of expertise to develop and plan for the curriculum, so we have staff who ensure the excellent delivery of science, forest school, music, puppets and theatre for example.
